About Duncan Hewitt

Duncan Hewitt is a skilled PMO lead, joining Seven Consulting’s Sydney practice in August, 2017. He has over 15 years’ experience in PMO management and is a highly experienced project specialist, skilled in all stages of the delivery lifecycle with a focus on PMO.

Duncan has strong commercial acumen, project & PMO management, communication and problem-solving skills. He brings an excellent track record in establishing high quality framework, processes, reporting and risk management.

Key Achievements

As PMO Lead, for Equifax’s Security Remediation Program, Duncan took over the end-to-end financial management and reporting. Duncan generated weekly reporting, providing insights and analysis, as well as producing and presenting monthly financial reporting for the Steering Committee. Duncan established custom reporting for the CFO and Financial Controller to provide monthly updates on the historical and current capital expenditure. Duncan also successfully managed a team of 4 PMO resources covering the governance, schedule and planning, scope and risk management functions for the agile delivery Program. With a reduced Program budget in 2020, Duncan consolidated PMO activities and transitioned to a single PMO resource whilst assisting the new Program Manager in the development a revised business case.


As Project Manager on Alinta’s Finance Transformation Program, Duncan was responsible for completion of the business cases for two major projects of the broader program (Forecasting and Accounts Payable projects). Facilitated working groups with business owners and stakeholders to develop business case for approval in February 2019. The engagement was extended to allow for mobilisation of the two projects and commence delivery, while successfully establishing the governance artefacts and operating rhythm for the overall program.


As lead consultant on the Delivery and PMO Uplift at Indue Limited to assess and document the current delivery and PMO capability, Duncan developed a 2-year roadmap to address gaps, consolidate delivery practices into a single framework and evolve the delivery methodology to meet capability maturity strategic targets. An EPMO structure, tailored to support the size and complexity of the portfolio, was also defined.


As PMO consultant for the Project Delivery Capability Assessment for Woolworths IT. This consulting engagement included over 50 interviews, multiple business and IT workshops and delivered a comprehensive set of recommendations and solutions to implement a Capability Uplift Program. Subsequently engaged as the PMO lead for the program which included twenty-four initiative streams to improve the delivery culture and project management capability, introduce flexibility/agility into the project framework and governance, improve visibility of performance metrics and strengthen portfolio management.


As Manager Enterprise Project Delivery Practice at NAB, Duncan oversaw and provided business management and PMO / program level support to key initiatives associated with the overall strategic development performance. The practice delivered over $1 billion of project change in FY16 with over 500 permanent and contracted staff.


As Senior Consultant at NAB’s Enterprise Project Delivery Practice, Duncan implemented a consistent operating rhythm by improving the executive reporting framework and schedule between projects to match senior executive requirements across ten strategically important projects. Duncan also successfully managed & led the internal working group and the external resource supplier evaluation process designed to deliver cost savings and improved deliverable quality.


As Senior Consultant at NAB’s Business Management, Risk Services, Duncan successfully managed the division’s Small & Medium Change (SaMC) project portfolio. He delivered the portfolio at 1% under the $1.4m budget in FY14. This was achieved by assessing the portfolio state and improving actions and ongoing active management of the pipeline with budget cut challenges.


As Senior Consultant at NAB’s Risk Division, Duncan recovered 20% of the NAB SaMC project portfolio from a third-party supplier through implementation of a disciplined process and rigorous reporting and expenditure. The refund was then used on other initiatives in the Risk Small and Medium Project portfolio in FY14 which saved a potential ongoing cost to a risk business unit of $300,000 per annum from FY15.


As Project Manager for NAB’s Business Bank’s Small & Medium Change (SaMC) project portfolio, Duncan managed the end to end delivery of the Technology Portfolio with an extended team of up to 30 members per project. Duncan successfully delivered a portfolio of approximately $2m, consisting of around 15 projects with budgets in the range of $10-600k per project. He also improved the portfolio budget and estimating process and took the lead in developing a clear release framework from a previously disorganized process. He was appointed acting program manager due to his success.


As a PMO Manager for the NABConnect Program, Duncan successfully managed the PMO for the complex $14.8M Business Bank flagship program. This included management and timely production of status reporting, funding requests, control board packs, risk management, and stakeholder management. Duncan brought the program’s risk management processes back on schedule with the delivery of an effective risk assessment management process and facilitated workshops with a challenging stakeholder group.


As Project Manager at NAB, Duncan successfully completed and delivered the Master Test Plan aligned to the compulsory Government-established timeframes for Low Value Settlement Services Project.


As Project Manager at NAB, Duncan successfully delivered business case completion and secured investment board endorsement and funding approval for Cards eVerification Project. He was then charged to lead the project set-up and vendor selection in a challenging environment. The project enabled the bank to provide a 3rd party electronic identity verification service to improve customer experience by removing the need to present physical identification in branch.
