Key Achievements

As Program Director at MLC, Mark ran the RFP to secure an outsourced solution provider for a key Wealth solution offering as part of the transformation agenda. Mark reported to the CEO and his C-suite for this engagement.


As Consulting Program Director at National Australia Bank, Mark delivered solutions for multiple NAB Wealth initiatives to address issues raised by the Royal Commission (specifically obligations relating to ASFs). Mark delivered the work driven by NAB Wealth’s Simplification strategy to prepare Wealth for separation.


As Program Director at Woolworths Fuelco business, Mark supported the CEO to structure the delivery program and implement a robust governance model to the separation activity required to support the potential IPO and trade sale of the Woolworth’s fuel business.


As Program Director at Telstra Health, Mark delivered the National Cancer Screening Register (NCSR) for Cervical Cancer for Telstra Health, for its customer, the Department of Health and interested parties, the 8 States and Territories. The non-standard state and territory level registers were seamlessly migrated onto the new national register. The delivery also included the introduction of a new technology solution for the NCSR, standardising across the industry on data standards and protocols, and the onboarding of all the national and regional laboratories and medical services and practitioners that engaged with the NCSR. The engagement had senior minister involvement and was highly regulated and subject to several audits.


As Program Director at Telstra, Mark lead a team that conducted an Assurance Review of Telstra’s Business to Business Digitisation Transformation program. Produced a comprehensive list of recommendations to address key sponsorship, structural, and delivery challenges. Mark delivered a plan in place to implement the recommendations.


As Program Director at SAI Global, Mark managed SAI Global’s Business Transformation Program working with a team from McKinsey and leveraging their RTS Methodology. The program’s target was double revenue of the organisation in a 5-year period.


As Program Manager/Director at Commonwealth Bank, Mark managed Commonwealth Bank’s Aegis Program that replaced the legacy Identity and Access Management solution (TIM/TAM) with Dell’s market leading solution. Mark was the 5th program manager introduced to a program in distress to resolve quality and coordination issues and address massive cost and time overruns. Mark was accountable for successfully delivering four major work streams / projects over multiple releases worth an estimated $73m+. Mark was also accountable for the integration of the Dell solution with a Sail Point implementation for User Access Review (UAR) – something never done before globally.


As Program Director at Commonwealth Bank, Mark was accountable for delivering four major programs of work as part of the broader $1.6bn Core Banking Modernisation (CBM) program of the Commonwealth Bank of Australia. Responsible for the budget, quality, on-time delivery and end-to-end integration of the Account Origination and Service and Maintenance capabilities and functionality across the technology stack (SAP, Multiple Channels, Integration & a Rules Engine). Managed, mentored and motivated large, highly dynamic teams of over 150 resources to achieve quality outcomes. Total budget for the four releases was in excess of $400m. Mark won a CEO award for the delivery of the Account Origination capability for Term Deposits during one of the CBM releases (L2C).


As Capability Lead at Commonwealth Bank, Mark lead the capability for CBM program. Mark was accountable for deployment planning and execution of releases. Developed the IT Delivery Methodology (SDLC) to specifically deal with the scale and complexity of CBM. Updated the Bank’s SDLC with the improvements developed for CBM. Mark was instrumental in setting up the governance and change management disciplines to minimise the business impact and maximise ROI. Mark drove improvements to, and standardised, the Bank’s estimation tools for large scale IT initiatives, and improved the performance review, recruitment tools and methodologies employed by Service Development.


As Program Manager at Commonwealth Bank, CBA Institutional Banking and Markets, Mark was introduced to a program in distress to resolve quality and coordination issues and address massive cost and time overruns. Mark delivered an integrated project plan of 11 projects to deliver a Wallstreet solution to replace the legacy foreign exchange capability, valued at $120m. Mark set up the governance and change management practises. Managed matrix teams of 60+ resources.


As Program Manager at Commonwealth Bank, Mark joined the IT business that services the Bank’s Wealth Management and Institutional Banking & Markets (IB&M) Businesses as a Business Solutions Executive Manager managing a team of senior consultants. Business Solutions (BS) were responsible for IT Strategy and Technology roadmaps & for promoting the development and use of Group Strategic Assets. Mark and team were the first point of contact into IT for any new initiatives that had the potential to require project funding. Mark and team kept up to date on IT and financial services trends to proactively identify opportunities and support the business in forming a view on industry issues.”


As Program Manager Responsible to MLC to replan and execute the delivery of their eContributions project (a NAB Wealth Compliance project) considering transformational objectives to deliver strategic benefits. Executed the Projects@NAB methodology to deliver high level plans and estimates and updates to the business case for funding approval. Included Business Process re-engineering workshops, pain point analysis and solutioning, driving high level solution design to complete high level estimation and delivery planning.


As Program Manager at Woolworths, Mark reviewed Woolworth Limited’s Governance Framework and advised their Business Technology Service (BTS) Department (their IT Business) on how to improve their current framework to maximise benefits of good governance and achieve their expressed desired outcomes. Responsible for scoping portfolio management and PMO capabilities. Mark was accountable for defining and implementing a roadmap to a strategic solution. Chaired the BTS Steering Committee and was responsible for day to day governance.


Reviewed Stockland’s biggest IT implementation program TRAC and advised on how they could change from Waterfall methodology to Agile mid delivery. Recommendations were endorsed by the executive management board and fully implemented.


Program Lead for CBM’s Customer Offer Sales and Service Engine (COSSE) implementing a PEGA rules engine. Managed the conception and delivery of COSSE, the rules engine/system enabling CBA to market offers for products, using differential pricing, to individual customers in semi real time.


Institutional Banking and Markets (IB&M) IT at CBA. As head of Business Solutions for IB&M IT, accountable for the successful delivery of the IB&M IT Strategy.


Co-developed, piloted and rolled out the main stream Design Thinking capability for CBA Enterprise Services (ES) specifically to provide a tool to resolve complex problems and deliver true customer empathetic solutions. Provided input into the ES Innovation Strategy (2013) and presented at the CBA Innovation festival (2012/2013).
