On 9 September 2022, Basketball Australia started a partnership with Seven Consulting for the Australian Opals. Fast forward to 2026, and Seven Consulting remains a major sponsor—continuing a partnership built on shared values, ambition, and excellence.

Seven Consulting is deeply committed to championing women’s sport. Our sponsorship of the Australian Opals reflects our belief in levelling the playing field and empowering women to perform and succeed at the highest level, both on and off the court.

This partnership builds on Seven Consulting’s long‑standing support of elite women’s sport. From 2017 to 2023, we were proud major sponsors of the CommBank Matildas and continue to actively support them today.

Now, we’re excited to cheer on the Australian Opals as they compete on the global stage, currently ranked 3rd in the world. Did you know?

The Australian Opals are one of the country’s most successful and historic national teams. Currently ranked #3 in the world, the Opals have forged a formidable international reputation through consistent performance and outstanding achievements.

Their journey began in 1938 when an Australian women’s team played its first-ever international fixture against New Zealand. Since then, the Opals have become a dominant force in global women’s basketball.

Achievements

  • Perfect World Cup Qualifying Campaign: In March 2026, the Opals finished their FIBA World Cup Qualifying Tournament in Istanbul with a perfect 5–0 record. They secured qualification for the 2026 World Cup with a final 82–76 win over Canada.
  • FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup: Champions in 2006 and medallists on five other occasions — silver in 2018 and bronze in 1998, 2002, 2014 and 2022.
  • FIBA Asia Cup: Since joining FIBA Asia, the Opals have medalled at every tournament — silver in 2017 and bronze in 2019, 2021 and 2023, and gold in 2025.
  • Olympic Games: The Opals have been a powerhouse since their first qualification in 1984, earning six medals from ten appearances — silver in 2000, 2004 and 2008, and bronze in 1996, 2012 and 2024.
  • Hall of Fame Honours: As of March 2025, three Opals legends — Robyn Maher AM, Lauren Jackson AO OLY and Michele Timms AM — have been inducted into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame. Robyn Maher, Penny Taylor and Michele Timms have also been inducted into the FIBA Basketball Hall of Fame.
