Key Achievements
As Global Head of Implementation at HSBC, Tobias managed the MyDay program (Digital workplace app) launching the app for its 250k global workforce. MyDay digitises the colleague experience, promotes hybrid working and provides a mobile solution for the workplace. Via a blended Agile and Waterfall delivery model, MyDay has been delivered to 70 sites in 21 countries and is accessible by c150k HSBC colleagues. Initially he was brought on to lead the MyDay deployment in the ASP region (>50% of the roadmap was in ASP) – the team he led in ASP needed to be agile and quick to react given the pace of the ASP deployments. He was then promoted to take on responsibility for all MyDay deployments globally. This includes all new MyDay site deployments globally, delivery of all program PODs (Agile program PODs were established in 2023 to enhance the product delivery capability) as well as the delivery of any major enhancements to the live MyDay instance.
- As Strategy Lead at HSBC, Tobias successfully delivered the Finance on the Cloud (FotC) program. This multi-year agile program (USD400m) transformed HSBC Finance by completely re-engineering the Finance operating model, establishing new business processes, and delivering a standardised data model across the HSBC Group. He was brought into the program on an advisory basis to re-structure the program, which has visibility at HSBC Group Exco level. Reporting directly to the Program Director, he defined and ran the remediation program that will put in place the structures required to deliver the program at pace and at scale.
- As Program Director at HSBC, Tobias was responsible for the Fusion Lite program (USD30m) to deploy HSBC’s strategic ERP system to 11 countries across 4 regions by the end of 2021 using a blended agile and waterfall approach. Oracle Fusion is HSBC’s cloud-based ERP platform with nine integrated packages spanning Payroll, Planning, Billing, Finance and Procure-to-Pay (P2P) – Fusion Lite delivers all modules except Payroll & Billing on a ‘global template’ basis. He double hatted the leadership of this program whilst maintaining his responsibility for the Asia Pacific Wave 5 Fusion rollout.
- As Wave Delivery Lead at HSBC, Tobias led the fifth and final Wave of the full implementation of Fusion as part of the USD70m annual Fusion spend. Wave 5 was successfully delivered to China, Malaysia, and the Philippines (~30 entities) as part of the 2020/21 roadmap in Q1 2021, which completed the key target for the program of having >85% of HSBC’s cost base flowing through Fusion. The program required extensive interaction with HSBC C-suite executives due to its high-profile status and was one of HSBC’s top five technology initiatives in 2021.
- As Program Manager at HSBC, Tobias was responsible for the delivery of all the P2P Oracle Fusion components across UK, EMEA, Asia and Americas. Leading a global team of ~50 FTEs spanning data readiness, supplier onboarding, Functional SMEs/BAs, project managers and the supplier network integration. It successfully deployed across the operating banks in Switzerland (CH) and Hong Kong (HK) spanning required business change, operational readiness, target operating model, data readiness & system implementation. Tobias delivered P2P components to enable the formation of regulatory service companies in CH and HK including new operating models, associated data migrations, interfaces, process controls and staff transfer, and enabled HSBC to meet stringent UK Ring-Fencing regulations through providing a split ledger to support the formation of HSBC UK.
As the Global Head at HSBC, Tobias directed the Global Stress Testing (GST) Transformation program including establishment of the program’s strategy, structure, plan, funding, and governance. He was a member of the GST Steering Committee, Change Board, Executive Committee and GST Management Board (Group CFO level). He achieved the execution of all workstreams including Business Design, GST Measurement, Operating Model, Technology & Systems, Data Strategy and People & Connectivity. Tobias established HSBC’s ‘Vision’ for stress testing through partnering with KPMG and defined and led GST’s offshoring strategy, focusing on efficiency and cost reduction, which delivered the annual P&L savings target of GBP2.5m.
As Delivery Lead at Bank of England, Tobias managed the Prudential Regulation Authority’s (PRA) Stress Testing program establishing the program delivery structure across eight workstreams including all reporting mechanisms and delivery design to PRA Director level. He launched and chaired the program Delivery Board responsible for the core change components required for the Bank of England 2015 annual stress test. Tobias designed and established the PRA’s Model Delivery Framework, advised on the industry-wide Firm Data Submission Framework and associated data models, and delivered the PRA stress testing operating model.
As Assurance Director at Lloyds Banking Group, Tobias was the owner of the IFRS 9 program testing and model assurance (T&A) strategy, which replaced the existing IAS 39 Impairment calculation for all secured and unsecured retail assets by end 2018. He led program T&A formation covering all secured and unsecured credit, delivered T&A program planning for 2014-2018, and consulted extensively with senior members of LBG’s credit risk management team to ensure T&A strategy was understood and accepted
As Workstream Lead at Lloyd Banking Group, he managed the Secured Capital & Impairment program which involved a variety of key projects to facilitate the integration activities of Halifax Bank of Scotland (HBOS) and LBG. Amongst the largest banking integration ever undertaken in the UK, deliverables included the formation of the new TSB Bank. This role included stakeholder management of the C-suite executives who were accountable for the successful integration of the two banks. The final part of mortgage assets integration involved extracting 600k mortgages from existing HBOS platforms to feed LBG’s bespoke risk application for Capital (RWA) and Impairment calculations. Tobias delivered all technical testing (unit/system/integration/performance/non-functional), business testing and model assurance activities, represented the program at Steering Committee/Project Delivery Board/Technical Design Authority, defined model assurance tolerances and targets, and delivered the GBP7m on time and to budget.
As Project Manager/Senior Business Analyst at Royal Bank of Scotland Group PLC, Tobias managed the full Hyperion Financial Management implementation, working alongside Oracle and Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) technology services as delivery and technology partners. He delivered separation assurance strategy to the Finance Steering Committee, defined and delivered new month-end consolidated reporting process framework and operating model for RBS actuarial services, and mapped system solutions in preparation for divestment.
